Erick Mutua is the founder and lead developer of EMMCloud Softwares — a software company in Kenya built from the ground up to serve the local business community. As a Kenyan software developer who has spent years observing the challenges Kenyan businesses face daily, Erick identified a critical gap: powerful, affordable, cloud-based business software built specifically for the Kenyan market simply did not exist.
In December 2025, Erick founded EMMCloud Softwares — not as a side project, but as a full commitment to building software that makes a real difference for Kenyan businesses. As the sole lead developer, he designs, builds, tests, and maintains every product personally, ensuring quality and vision remain consistent and customer-driven at every stage.
Erick's approach as a Kenyan software developer is shaped by one core principle: build software that solves real problems for real people. Not software adapted from Western markets, but software born from understanding Kenya — its payment systems, its business culture, its infrastructure, and its people.
Why EMMCloud Softwares was born
The story of EMMCloud Softwares begins with a simple observation: thousands of Kenyan businesses — from supermarkets in Nairobi to retail shops in Mombasa, from pharmacies in Kisumu to hardware stores in Nakuru — were managing their operations manually. Paper notebooks for stock, WhatsApp for orders, guesswork for profits.
The software that existed was either too expensive, built for Western markets, or so complex that it required costly training and support beyond what most SMEs could afford. As a Kenyan software developer, Erick saw this and made a decision: build something better, from scratch, specifically for this market.
EMMCloud Softwares was founded in December 2025. Within months, the first product — EMMCloud POS — was live and serving businesses across Kenya. Kenya's tech ecosystem, supported by hubs like iHub Nairobi and the Kenya ICT Authority, provided the infrastructure that made this launch possible.

Our mission is to be the most trusted software company in Kenya for small and medium businesses — building tools that are powerful enough to compete with global software but priced and built for the Kenyan market.
We are guided by the belief that every Kenyan business deserves access to great software. Not just the large corporations, but the single-shop retailer in Machakos, the growing pharmacy chain in Thika, the fashion boutique owner in Westlands. According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, SMEs form the backbone of Kenya's economy — they deserve software that works for them.
Our vision is to grow EMMCloud Softwares into a full software studio — building multiple products across different business verticals, all anchored in the same commitment to quality, affordability, and local relevance. We look to the growth of developer communities across Africa, like those championed by Andela and the GSMA Mobile Economy Africa report, as inspiration for what African-built software can achieve.
